Kids shows nowadays

What do you all think of the shows that are out nowadays? YTV has changed so much since I was a child and I really think it's awful. I have 2 kids and my son likes YTV but I won't allow him to watch it because of all the violence that are on the shows. Cartoon Network isn't always too bad but alot of the time the shows are plain wrong. I just don't understand why kids need to watch violence or anything sexual. My son is 5 and doesn't understand why I tell him he can't watch certain things. It can be hard to explain why sometimes but we as parents need to limit and pay attention to the things our children watch from day to day. My favorite childrens channel is Treehouse TV. It has great educational shows for kids of all ages and it is the ONLY channel that I trust enough not to worry when my kids watch it. So what do you think should you monitor what your children watch? and what do you think about the shows out there?
